The Shadow of the Torturer. This is the first book of the four-volume Book of the New Sun series. I had read it long ago (about ten years ago now), and for some reason had not continued on to the other books, so I re-read it in preparation for reading the rest of the bltadwin.rught: 2/5: I did not like this book. It was a little weird but not groundbreaking. I am not sure why it is on the list of best fanfiction books. This book has a wandering plot where the main character has random events in a far future which is more Fantasy than Sci-Fi. There is a part in the book that reminds me of Richard Brautigan's novela "In Watermelon Sugar" where the dead are sunk in a Author: Aaron Boyd. Gene Wolfe has crafted something very unique in The Shadow of the Torturer and yet it is just the beginning of his magnificent work. It defies classifcation and transcends tacky labels, it is multilayered, ingenious, thoughtful, and seductive. It is a book that can be read again and again such is its richness.4/4().
