· Blackbirds is an addictive page-turner. Written in descriptive-but-efficient prose, the writing style reminds me a little of John Locke’s books, another reader whose books I burn through. Fans of Chuck Wendig will not be disappointed.". Chuck Wendig is a helluva writer if you have read Wanderers or Invasive. In Wanderers, Chuck demon strated his ability to create a plot with a slow burn that comes together with a symphonic crash; Invasive frankly scared the shit out of me. But, Blackbirds is written with such an unlikeable character that I could not get into it. Sometimes, unlikeable is excellent. If you’re looking for an author who isn’t afraid to go balls-to-the-wall with their story, look no further. With near-surgical, intoxicant-fueled precision, Chuck Wendig’s Blackbirds cuts directly to where it hurts the very most and yet keeps you coming back for more, a stellar example of what truly dark and personal urban fantasy should be.
